The ENJOY project: research outcomes and associated recommendations for improving the environment to promote physical activity for older people

The ENJOY project (Exercise interveNtion outdoor proJect in the cOmmunitY) is a community research project actively promoting well-being through the provision of an exercise program using outdoor multimodal exercise equipment (the Seniors Exercise Park). The project included collaboration with two local governments and an aged care facility incorporating the equipment installation and the delivery of a physical and social activity program for older people as part of a prospective pre-post research design. This presentation will overview the results of the ENJOY project including the health benefits gained as well as exercise park usage, adherence, and participants' feedback. The presentation will also discuss the collaborative process and approach utilised to engage local governments and community, and report the challenges and the lessons learnt to inform future strategies for implementation. Outcomes of the project can further assist public health research design around the built environment to positively impact on older people's health.
